Sumár projektu:Context of project: - To examine the Cold War and its impact of partner countries and to produce teaching resources on the Cold War to be used after completion of this project. - To contribute to our students becoming global citizens, fostering their curiosity about global events and helping them to make connections between the school curriculum and the wider world. Objectives of the project: - To prepare pupils for an an ever-changing, diverse and multi-cultural world, with complex problems that can only be solved by working together as global citizens. We will use ICTs to work in international groups and reflect together on our different experiences and perspectives of our recent past. - To make pupils independent learners and to research and select appropriate material to design the website and the learning materials. - To produce unbiased teaching resources that can be used to educate pupils about the Cold War, overcoming the problem of viewing history from a national perspective by examining the same issues from the point of view of the four partners. These teaching materials will be elaborated by pupils for pupils, and could be teacher-led or used by independent learners. - To develop the ability to assess current political developments from a wider, more objective perspective. We will ask our students to compare the Cold War era with ours, looking for similarities and differences. Number and profile of participants: Each school is inviting a small number of pupils aged 15 -17 in year one and year two of the project. Most will take part across both years with between 15-20 pupils from each school involved in the project in total. For some periods the number of pupils involved will rise considerably (e.g. in the common activity meetings when whole school classes will be involved in trying out the new material and giving feedback). By showing resources to younger pupils the audience for the results is far wider. Description of activities: Research the key events of the Cold War. Produce a timeline of events and link to video, external sites etc via a web page, a virtual museum. Production of resources for use to teach the Cold War Examination of social history in the decades of the Cold War examining what life was like for citizens of each partner country and upload these findings. Methodology: A combination of secondary book and web-based research to establish the main facts of the Cold War. Primary research via interviews with citizens who lived through this period to establish the social impact upon households in each country. International groups of students responsible for the curation and edition of contents to be uploaded to the web. Description of results: The website, a virtual museum, will contain all results, namely; - A timeline - Historical data and evidence from social history investigation on food, clothing and leisure. - Videos and photographs - Personal accounts - Teaching resources Impact: Students will develop research skills, IT skills especially in web design, communications and uploading files. Language skills are enhanced via translation of learning materials. By checking the reliability and validity and lack of bias we hope to develop critical and evaluative learners who can perform better in all academic subjects and the workplace in the future. Long term benefits: Resources will be available to be used in delivering the curriculum in all partner schools. These resources are designed by pupils for pupils and will be media rich and thus relevant to a modern student who expects such content. Participants will have improved language skills and become more confident communicators in other European languages. Participants will become more motivated and confident individuals as a result of preparing and selecting resources for use by others. They can demonstrate enhanced workplace and employability skills in a number of regards.
